She was nominated for the presidency of the American Bar Association, and was later confirmed by the organization's House of Delegates as president-elect in August 2014. She is a mediator for the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey. She earned a B.A. from Howard University and her J.D. from Seton Hall University School of Law. She started her law practice in 1976. Brown was a municipal court judge in Plainfield, New Jersey.
